Bulldog baseball falls to LCC

By Cort Reynolds

The Ada High School baseball team lost a 13-7 slugfest to visiting Lima Central Catholic in a non-conference contest Monday evening, April 24.

The Bulldog boys fell to 4-9 overall with the defeat.  LCC improved to 6-1 with the win.

“I am proud of the kids and their willingness to compete,” said Ada head coach Toby Smith.  “We could have rolled over after what happened in the top of the first, and we didn’t. We competed all the way through!”

The Thunderbirds jumped ahead 4-0 after the top of the first. Carson Parker led off the game with a triple, followed by an Ada error. Billy Bourk and Cira each then doubled, followed by a Lauck single.

Ada got one run back in the home first. Max Puerto hit a lead-off single, followed by a run-scoring single from Bulldog senior Jacob Sutherly. Levi Green singled but was erased on a double play.

Ada senior Spencer Wall singled and stole two bases to lead off the second frame. He then scored to inch Ada within 4-2.

LCC scored two two-runs in the top of the third. Singles by Parker and Matthew Quatman were followed by a double from Bourk as the T-Birds built a 7-2 lead.

In the visitor fourth, LCC’s Brady Malcolm slugged a two-run homer to right-center field to provide a 9-2 lead.

Ada plated four runs in the home fifth to get back in contention. Lester Amos was hit by a pitch leading off, followed by a Levi Sousley single.

Puerto hit an RBI single to make it 9-3. With one out, Green singled. Roman Snyder then stroked a two-run single. Dalton Amos slapped a run-scoring hit to cut the deficit to 9-6.

LCC led off the sixth with a single and a walk. Parker hit a two-run triple to put the visitors ahead, 11-6. Quatman then singled him home for a six-run bulge.

Bourk then drove in the last T-Bird run with a grounder to shortstop.

Ada tallied its final run in the bottom of the sixth.  Lester Amos walked, followed by singles from Sousley and Puerto.

Ada put two runners on base in the home seventh, but the game ended on a strikeout.

Puerto amassed three hits, two runs and one RBI to pace Ada. Sutherly and Snyder each registered two RBI and a hit.

Dalton Amos compiled a hit and an RBI. Sousley smacked two hits and scored a run. Lester Amos scored twice and drew two walks.

Spencer Wall stole two bases, hit a single and scored a run.

LCC out-hit Ada, 19-12.

Malcolm earned the pitching win and hit a two-run homer. He hurled four innings of two-run baseball, striking out six and allowing five hits.

Ada freshman Mason Wibley whiffed five T-Birds over 3 2/3 innings in relief of Snyder. Sousley hurled the final three frames.

LCC stranded 12 runners, while Ada left eight on base. The Bulldogs committed three errors to no miscues by the T-Birds.
