Bulldogs McClain, Bulerin compete at OHSAA wrestling meet

COLUMBUS - Ada High School junior Clayton McClain and freshman Marley Bulerin wrestled at the state double-elimination tournament Friday, March 10, at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus. 

The pair are the third and fourth Bulldog wrestlers to make it to the state meet. 

Seeded fourth in his quarter of the 16 wrestlers in the 144 lbs. bracket at the Div. III boys state event, McClain faced off first against Columbiana Crestview senior Braeden Stallworth Friday afternoon.

Crawford won an 11-0 decision and improved to 43-2 with the win.

Later on Friday evening in the first consolation round, McClain wrestled Amanda-Clearcreek freshman Bodie Martin and dropped a 13-7 decision to be eliminated. Martin improved to 36-7 with the win.

McClain finished his season with a record of 40-12.

Ada freshman Marley Bulerin competed at the inaugural OHSAA-sanctioned girls state wrestling meet in Columbus at the Schott.

Seeded third in her quarter of the 16-girl bracket, Bulerin met Avon Lake junior Layla Patterson for her first-round match in the 125 lbs. division. Bulerin lost a 12-6 decision to two seed Patterson (22-8) early Friday evening to fall into the consolation bracket.

In the consolation first round later Friday night, she lost 17-0 by technical fall to senior Taryn Gamble of Heath. Gamble upped her record to 13-9 with the victory.

Bulerin ended her season 30-7 against girls competition.
