Celebration of lifesaving efforts with Ada's "miracle man"
The Tuesday, February 21 Village Of Ada Council Meeting was an exceptional event with more than 30 guests squeezed into the council chambers at 115 W Buckeye Ave. Mayor Dave Retterer called the meeting to order and as usual conducted the pledge of allegiance--after which the meeting was far from typical.
Guests warmly greeted Robert Trebilcock, who was introduced as Ada’s miracle man following his rescue by Ada police officers, and Ohio Northern University security guards, as well as Ada-Liberty Fire and Ada-Liberty EMS squads on January 30.
Police Chief Alec Cooper presented lifesaving awards to the officers who responded in the incident, Sergeant John Iten and Patrolman Andrew Peterman as well as ONU Public Safety Officers Garrett Molands and Amy Lutterbein.
The officers responded to a single vehicle accident call on West Lincoln Avenue and found Trebilcock in a locked vehicle with no signs of life. They broke into the vehicle and then used an automated external defibrillator to shock Trebilcock and began CPR. The Ada-Liberty Fire department also responded to the call and assisted with CPR, which was noted as being a very physically demanding task.
The Ada-Liberty EMS squad had Trebilcock on his way to Lima Memorial Hospital some three minutes after arriving on scene. EMTs applied a mechanical CPR device and placed an advance airway device, and actively supported the patient en route to the hospital.

Trebilcock, who is from Yuma, Arizona, commented that he didn’t think he would have made it if the accident had happened somewhere else. He said “How do you thank people for saving your life? Words can’t express it. It is a miracle that you were able to be there.” He is expected to make a full recovery.
Fire department responders were Shane Baughman and Brent Direman.
EMS responders were Tim Dearth, Dot Jordan, Gail Schroeder and Haley Solomon.
