Amanda Markley taught 5th grade at Bluffton Elementary School

Amanda Jane (Rayl) Markley, age 43, of Lima, left this life at 1:58 a.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at her home with the love of her family by her side.

She was born October 7, 1979, in Lima to Charles D. Rayl and Jane Laura (Staley) Rayl. Her mother survives in Lafayette and her father and stepmother, Janice Rayl survive in Lima. On June 18, 2005, she married her longtime friend, Aaron G. Markley who also survives.

Also surviving is their son, Logan G. Markley at home; her siblings: Mollie (Scott) Gonder of Ada, Samantha (Dan) Remlinger of Hilliard and Skyler (Alexis) Rayl of Lafayette; Amanda is also survived by Aaron's parents Deb & Greg Markley of Lima, and his siblings: Kelly (Stacy) Rouse, Eric (Abbey) Markley, both of Charlotte, NC and Devon Kinyon of Lima. She will be missed by many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Amanda was loved by all, was an amazing wife and mother, and loved life. She was a 1998 graduate of Allen East High School and received her bachelor's degree from Bluffton College in 2002, where she was on the volleyball team. She earned her master's degree from Cleveland State University. She was a teacher, educating young minds in North Carolina, Lima City Schools and was currently teaching 5th grade at Bluffton Elementary. She was Teacher of the Year in North Carolina. She coached varsity girls basketball, junior varsity volleyball and junior high softball. She also officiated high school and junior high volleyball. She was a member of Bath Athletic Boosters where she had been treasurer. One of her greatest passions in life was attending Logan's sporting events. Amanda will always be his biggest fan. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Lima and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Russell and Winifred Staley, Charles and Kathryn Rayl and two infant brothers, Zachary and Charles Rayl. 

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the surrounding communities for the love and support expressed to the family during this difficult time. 

Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 30, 2023, at Zion Lutheran Church, 1300 Edgewood Dr., Lima. Pastor Dan Gutman will officiate the service. Burial will follow in LaFayette Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, January 29, at Zion Lutheran Church and from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Monday, at the church prior to the service.
