Bulerin wins Fostoria tourney

ELMORE –Ada High School wrestler Marley Bulerin won the Fostoria girls tournament this weekend. She is 20-4 this year and is ranked 16th in Ohio in the 125-pound weight class by American Women's Wrestling.
She has previously placed third at the Clyde and Tinora tournaments, as well as fifth at Findlay.
The Ada boys wrestling team finished a solid 11th at the 22-team Woodmore A Classic tournament Friday and Saturday.
"This tournament was a step up in competition level for us,” said Ada head coach Eric Perkins. “On Friday we were a little bit slow getting started, but Saturday I thought we were more aggressive and our guys took advantage of some opportunities we were missing on Friday."
Ada sophomore Liam Vieira and junior Clayton McClain each finished second in their weight divisions to post the top Bulldog showings.
Vieira went 6-2 at the 126 lbs. bracket with all six wins via pin. He lost by pin to Mateo Mack in the finals.
"Liam had a great weekend,” Perkins noted. “He wrestled some quality opponents and did a really good job getting to his offense. He is starting to find a good rhythm, and hopefully he can build on that as we get later into January and February."
McClain authored a 4-2 mark at 144 lbs. He won by pin three times with one 7-2 decision victory. In the finals, he lost a close 6-5 decision to Caiden Maize.
"Clayton wrestled one of his best tournaments of the year,” said Perkins. “His losses were both to the same opponent. Friday it was by major decision, and on Saturday in the finals he was a couple seconds away from winning. It was great to see him be able to make adjustments like that from one match to the next."
Freshman Silas Riblet came in fourth at the 106 lbs. bracket. He was 3-4 with two pins and a decision win in the two-day event.
"Most of Silas's matches to this point have been against other freshmen and inexperienced opponents,” Perkins observed. “This weekend, he wrestled some tougher opponents and while fourth is his lowest placement of the season, he didn't back down and really competed well."
Ada sophomore Landon Simon went 5-4 at 190 lbs. with five pins.
Bulldog Colton Cole rallied after a slow start to win four of his last five matches. He finished the tournament 4-5 at 190 lbs. with four pins.
At 138 lbs. sophomore Trevor McGue fashioned a 3-4 record with a pair of pins. Sophomore Logan Jolliff was 2-4 with a pin at the 132 lbs. division. Brady Sloan also went 1-5 at 144 lbs.
Owen Arnett finished 3-6 in the 165 lbs. bracket with two pins and a decision win.
"Colton, Owen, and Landon all had really good Saturdays,” Perkins summed up. “Their performance on Friday (in pool play) wasn't good enough to get into the placement bracket, but they were focused on Saturday and all three took advantage of the opportunities for matches."
Woodmore won the team title with 258.5 points, well ahead of second-place Swanton. The Ada A team scored 79 points, while the Bulldog B squad added 43 points.
Ada’s next action comes at the Crestview Duals Saturday, January 14.
