Sumner shoots Ada girls past T-Birds; career high 33 points

LIMA--The visiting Ada High School girls basketball team topped former league foe Lima Central Catholic 56-40 Tuesday night, January 3.
Senior guard Courtney Sumner poured in a career-high 33 points with six three-point goals to pace the victors.
Ada evened its record at 6-6 with the road win, while LCC fell to 4-7 with the defeat.
Sumner canned four triples in the first period and scored 16 points to propel Ada into a 20-14 lead.
The Lady Bulldogs led 29-22 at halftime as Sumner hit a trey and scored five more points in the second stanza.
Ada stretched its lead to 42-30 after three quarters as Katie Sizemore hit two baskets.
Sumner nailed nine of 10 free throws in the fourth period to provide the 16-point margin.
"Courtney shot the ball well and got into a rhythm early," said Ada head coach Zach Risner.
"We played extremely well as a team and it was a great team win," he added.
Junior Olivia Burkhart netted seven points and Sizemore added six.
Thunderbird Bridget Mulcahy hit four triples to tally a team-high 12 points. Olivia Stolly and Kiegh Macklin each netted 11 markers.
Ada canned six triples among their 20 baskets. The Bulldog girls hit on 10 of 14 free throws (71 percent).
LCC sank eight two-point field goals, four triples and four of eight foul shots (50 percent).

The Bulldogs (0-3 NWC) resume Northwest Conference play Thursday, Jan. 5 at home vs. Border Battle champion Allen East (9-2, 1-1 NWC). It will be the second meeting between the backyard rivals in eight days.
The Mustangs beat Ada in the Border semifinals last Wednesday in Waynesfield. AE went on to win their second straight BB tourney title over host Waynesfield. Both Mustang tourney wins came by 38 points.
AE (9-2) hosts Van Buren (4-5) Wednesday evening in the first of rare back-to-back outings. The Mustangs are 3-1 on the road, 2-0 at neutral sites and 4-1 at home this season.
Ada is 2-3 at home, 3-2 on the road and 1-1 at neutral sites.
