To commemorate Veterans Day 2022, Apollo Career Center will host an event for students, Invite-a-Veteran. The special event will be held in the high school building cafeteria, 1-2:30 p.m., Friday, November 11.
Over 40 students and their invited guests will attend a special ceremony to honor those Veterans in attendance, including guests, staff and current students. Apollo graduates and fallen soldiers, Christian Neff, Shawnee, and Jon Michael Schoolcraft, Wapakoneta, will also be honored, as well as their families in attendance.
Featured speaker will be Dr. Clancy Hatleberg, Phd., MBA, JD.
Clancy Hatleberg (CDR, USN, RET.)
Clarence (Clancy) Hatleberg attended Dartmouth College on an NROTC scholarship. He graduated in June 1965 with a B.A. degree and was commissioned an ensign in the U.S. Navy.
In June 1966, he received orders to attend the Basic Underwater Demolition and Seal (BUDS) training located in Coronado, CA. After completing BUDS he attended Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) School prior to serving in the Vietnam War in charge of two Underwater Demolition Team 11 platoons in the Delta. He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal and he and his men were also awarded Presidential and Naval Unit Citations.
After returning from Vietnam, he was put in charge of the Apollo 10 and 11 UDT Swimmer Recovery Unit and designated the decontamination swimmer for the recovery of Apollo 11. Following the Apollo 11 recovery, CDR. Hatleberg had various assignments including Executive and Commanding Officer positions in Special Warfare.
He also earned a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Mexico while stationed at Sandia Laboratories in Albuquerque and an MBA and Law degree from the University of San Diego while stationed at the Naval Ocean Systems Center in San Diego. After retiring from the Navy in 1985, he spent over 30 years in corporate and government R&D.
Clancy and his late wife Susan have two daughters, four grandchildren and two great granddaughters. He resides at family homes in Chippewa Falls, WI and Tacoma, WA.
