Dr. Sa’ed Al-Olimat, PharmD, who grew up in Ada, will be making a presentation on the proposed use of psychedelic drugs to treat mental health conditions. He will speak in a program entitled Psilocybin 101 at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 1 at Crimson Lane, 4600 County Road 1, Ada. 

Al-Olimat is a licensed pharmacist, community pharmacy manager, and educator of psychedelic medicine. He is a co-founder of the Psychedelic Pharmacists Association and founder of PsiloHealth.

There are currently over 100 trials involving psilocybin listed on clinicaltrials.gov and a search for news on the topic shows dozens articles in recent days on ballot initiatives to legalize psychedelics (the drug class including Psilocybin) as well as on microdosing for health benefits and potential profits in in psychedelics.

Psychedelics are a loosely grouped class of molecules that induce an altered-state of consciousness in a person. This may include visual alterations, amplification of emotions, and other perceptual changes. Psychedelics include naturally-occurring and synthetic compounds such as psilocybin (found in some fungi), DMT (found in some plants), mescaline (found in some cacti), MDMA, and LSD.

Psilocybin is one of many molecules found in over 200 species of mushrooms. Psilocybin is broken down into psilocin to induce the "psychedelic experience."

Psychedelics are classified as Schedule 1 drugs, meaning they have been considered to have a high potential for abuse and no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States,

The Facebook invitation for the event notes that the program will “touch upon risk reduction, ethical considerations, and more…. The presentation will end and the audience is invited to participate in group Q+A.
