By Cort Reynolds

The Ada High School girls soccer team convincingly defeated winless visiting Van Wert 9-1 Saturday morning, October 1, at War Memorial Park Stadium, setting some individual records in the process.

The Bulldog girls improved to 5-7 overall with the non-league win that snapped a seven-match losing streak.

The Cougar girls fell to 0-13 with the defeat.

Ada raced to a 6-0 lead at halftime and cruised to the lopsided win.

Sophomore standout Ella Marshall poured in four goals to tie a program single-season record with 14 this year. She also dished out two assists.

Junior Olivia Burkhart doled out three assists to set the Ada girls season record with a dozen. She also scored a goal.

Ada sophomore Lexi Poling netted a pair of goals, while teammate Karmen Hall tallied one goal. Alyssa Nau added one assist.

Ella Badertscher, the only Bulldog senior on the team, was recognized before her next to last regular season home game. She netted her second career goal in the win.

Senior Catanna Saum scored the lone Cougar goal in half two on an assist from junior Sydney Dowler.

Hall and Poling combined for three saves in goal for Ada. VW had 19 saves between keepers Nora Doctor and Lyndi Delzeith.

The Bulldogs out-shot the Cougars, 30-4.

"We needed this game," said Ada first-year head coach Doug Dewese. "The girls have had the potential to score and win, as evidenced by our 4-0 start. But they struggled to get back at it when the losses came.

"We hit some school records today, got back in the win column, and most importantly gave our senior Ella Baderstcher a great senior game - especially with her netting her second career goal."

The Ada girls play four road games before hosting Allen East in a makeup game on October 15 to end the regular season.

The Lady Bulldogs (0-3 NWC) visit Spencerville (1-7-3, 0-3-1 NWC) Monday, October 3.

"This game needs to be a building block for Monday's game," said Dewese. "Hopefully a positive vibe is back with the team and that gets us back in a successful mindset," he added.

The Bulldogs (0-4 NCOSA) then travel to Van Buren (9-4-1, 3-1 NCOSA) Oct. 6, and visit Delphos Jefferson (6-6-1, 2-2 NWC) Oct. 10.

The road swing finishes at tough Miller City (9-2-1) Oct. 13.
