Ada girls soccer shut out by Liberty-Benton
By Cort Reynolds
On September 14 the Ada High School girls soccer team lost a non-conference match to visiting Liberty-Benton 10-0 at War Memorial Park Stadium.
The Bulldogs fell to 4-3 this season with the defeat. The Eagles improved to 5-2-3 in with the lopsided victory.
"The biggest plus we take away from this is playing a full 80 minutes hard, regardless of the score," said first-year Ada head coach Doug Dewese.
"Liberty-Benton is one of the best teams in our area, so this was obviously a big hill to climb. The girls fought hard and that's all I can ask as a coach," he added.
Liberty netted five first half goals to seize command. They then added five more after intermission to win going away.
L-B scored just 72 seconds into the contest to grab a 1-0 lead.
Kylie Recker tallied again on an 18-yard shot at the 31:58 mark.
Ada keeper Katie Sizemore made a nice foot save at the 26:34 juncture to keep the deficit at 2-0.
The Eagles just missed a goal when a shot hit the crossbar at 21:13.
Recker netted a sliding goal with 18:56 left in the half to provide a 3-0 margin.
Emily Tomlinson knocked in a rebound shot with 15:45 to go in the half to stretch the margin to four.
Hope Woods then scored from three yards out at the 8:35 mark for a 5-0 intermission bulge.
Ada tries to end a three-game losing skid when they play at league co-leader Columbus Grove (5-0, 2-0 NWC) Monday, September 19.
