The Village of Ada tree commission has begun the annual windshield tree assessment, which provides a visual assessment of storm damaged trees, declining trees and trees to be watched. The first of four geographic quadrants--Quadrant A--has been assessed.
In a report to council on July 19, Village Administrator Jamie Hall noted that 35 have so far been identified with 4 needing immediate action (marked in red). The attached spreadsheet illustrates the assessment done so far.
Hall noted that the committe looks at trees on properties within the village and may require them to be removed if they are considered hazardous. Eight such trees have so far been identified, with seven on the watch list.
He commented that this is the "first and only step" in the process. The group of evaluators does not go onto properties. They consider if a tree can damage a structure or power lines, and if it can harbor damaging insects.
Owners are notified by mail if a tree has been put on the watch or action lists. The expense of work to be done can put on taxes, said Hall.
The village requires companies providing tree work to have a license with the village, to confirm that they have the required insurance. The list of licensed companies can be found at https://www.adaoh.org/tree-care-license-holders
