NSF awards $748,839 to ONU for scholarships, workshops
WASHINGTON, D.C.–U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded a $748,839 grant to Ohio Northern University to support 15 low-income students who intend to pursue careers in civil engineering, computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, or mechanical engineering. The funding will go towards four-year scholarships and academic success workshops for the selected students.
“Education in science and engineering is critical to creating jobs and improving our economy. We unleash more American innovation when everyone is able to participate,” Brown said. “Ohio Northern University is one of Ohio’s great institutions of higher education. These awards will help continue Ohio’s long tradition of leadership in innovation and scientific research by supporting students as they further their STEM education.”
In addition to this grant, Brown has also cosponsored the Supporting Early Career Researchers Act to establish a two-year pilot program at NSF to award grants to highly qualified, early-career investigators at independent, higher-education research institutions for up to two years. This will help prevent research talent loss due to pandemic job market.
NSF supports research and education in all the non-medical fields of science and engineering.
