AHS softball loss at Kenton
By Cort Reynolds
The Ada High School varsity softball team dropped an 11-1 non-league contest at Hardin County rival Kenton Wednesday evening, April 27.
The Lady Bulldogs dropped to 3-10 after the defeat. The Wildcats improved to 4-7 with the win.
Kenton scored four runs in the first inning and never trailed. Wildcat Macee Heckathorn smacked a two-run homer to highlight the opening frame.
"The first inning hurt," said Ada head coach Jeff Bassitt. "We couldn't get anything rolling with the bats. We had a few errors that killed us."
Kenton stretched its lead to 9-0 after four innings.
Ada plated its run in the fifth. Raeya Finn singled but was erased on a fielder's choice. Kayla Wince then doubled to drive in Katie Sizemore.
The Wildcats added two scores in the sixth to invoke the 10-run rule.
Wince hit a double and a bunt single to pace Ada. Finn, Daicy Robinson and Sizemore each singled.
Freshman hurler Jenna Bassitt struck out five batters. Winning hurler Jill Burd struck out three and scattered six hits over six innings.
Kenton out-hit Ada, 10-5. Emily Pees hit two doubles and a triple for the Wildcats. Pees also drove in three runs and scored twice.
Brynn Butler and Cailyn Brown each collected three hits for Kenton.
