Darwin Wilmot Hauenstein, 100, formerly of Allen County died March 25, 2013, at his daughter's home in Descanso, Calif.
He was born in Allen County, Jackson Township, on Dec. 20, 1912, to Lewis C. and Jennie Mae (Stober) Hauenstein.
He is survived by his daughter, Karen (Lynn) Price, his son-in-law, Lynn, a sister Betty (Delmar) Schulze of Chula Vista, grandson Darren Price and granddaughter Debbie Wetzel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Darwin Wilmot Hauenstein, Jr. and sisters, LaVaun (Nick High) (Ernest) Nixon of Ada, Cleo (Dennis) Brauen of Bluffton, Lanore (Eugene) Weaver of Detroit, Mich., Trollis (Walter) Garmatter of Rawson, and brothers Cloyce of Dola and Kenneth of LaFayette.
He leaves numerous nieces and nephews in the Hauenstein, High, Garmatter, Schulze, and Brauen families.
He attended LaFayette Schools and farmed for a time in Union Township. He became a mechanic and welder and in the late 1940s he moved to San Diego. He retired from General Dynamics in 1974 where he had worked in the Aerospace Division as a welder. One of his latest projects was the complete restoration of a 1927 Franklin.
