Pharmacy dean recognized for outstanding volunteerism, leadership
Ohio Northern University College of Pharmacy Dean Steve Martin, Pharm.D., recently received the Distinguished Service Award from the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM), a leadership group that collaboratively focuses on critical care practice, education and research. The award annually recognizes a society member for their consistent and sustained leadership and contribution to the group’s Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacology (CPP) Section, which focuses on optimal pharmacotherapeutic outcomes for all critically ill patients.
Award winners must be longstanding society members and volunteer their time for activities that can range from mentorship to discussion moderation. Those eligible to receive the award must also be engaged with local critical care organizations, institutional committees, and/or academic institutions involved in advancing the care of critically ill patients.
Award recipients are nominated by their peers. Included in Martin’s nomination material are myriad volunteer commitments on SCCM and CPP committees and task forces, published research, his designation as a 2002 Fellow in the American College of Critical Care Medicine, and his numerous speaking engagements at SCCM Congresses since 1994.
At ONU, Martin continues to serve as an expert source for media regarding pandemic safety measures and was a key organizer of ONU HealthWise Pharmacy’s state-sponsored COVID-19 mobile vaccine clinics offered within a multi-county rural region in spring 2021. He also remains a crucial healthcare information source for Ohio Northern as it renders decisions that are focused on keeping the ONU community safe and healthy.
