The Ada High School girls swim team qualified two members to the state meet with strong individual showings in the Div. II northwest district event Friday, February 17, at Bowling Green State University.
Ada freshman Lily Baumgartner finished second in the 100 butterfly with a personal-best time of 58.04 to make it to Canton.
She finished second in the district 100-yard butterfly with a personal-best time of 58.04. Baumgartner is seeded 13th amid the 24-girl field in the state 100 fly race.
Bulldog junior Kaitlyn Bowden finished 19th in the 100 butterfly race.
Baumgartner took third in the district 100 backstroke race, finishing a half-second ahead of Ada junior teammate Carlie Oldfield in fourth place.
Baumgartner has the 20th-best state-qualifying time in the 24-swimmer 100 backstroke field.
Oldfield touched fourth in the 50 freestyle. She made it to state in the 24-swimmer field for the 50 free as the last qualifier.
Baumgartner, Oldfield and Bowden each swam for two Ada relay quartets in the district meet. The 200 medley team came in seventh, while the 200 freestyle foursome finished 15th.
The Div. II state swim meet at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton starts Thursday, February 24. Preliminary races for Baumgartner and Oldfield will be held from 5:30 to 9 p.m. that night.
Div. II finals events will take place Friday, Feb. 25 from 5-8:30 p.m.
