$1.2M in zoning permits issued in 2021

54 residential and commercial permits

In 2021 Zoning Inspector Michael Harnishfeger issued 54 zoning permits, up slightly from 53 in 2020. The estimated value of these permits was $1,245,069.

Harnishfeger notes, “We had 1 new single-family home built and several additions. We had 3 homes demolished. The greatest requests continue to be permits for fences and sheds.”

“Our largest project in 2021 was a $790,000 Early Childhood Development Center on the campus of Ohio Northern University which began in December.”

“In 2021 after several years of litigation the Ada Schools was finally able to get Next Gen to demolish the windmill that had not worked for a number of years. I appreciate the school’s persistence in getting the court action.”

As zoning inspector, Harnishfeger issues permits and makes inspections and re-inspections. He fields phone calls and guides individuals, businesses and builders with information on code issues, setbacks and other requirements.

For 2022, Harnishfeger has his eye on unoccupied house trailers: “The issue of empty house trailers remains a focus for me and since the planning commission and council changed our position on house trailer time limits (from 2-years to 1-year empty), I continue to monitor empty trailers for  removal.”

Attached to this overview is a report on the 54 zoning reports that were issued during 2021. Commercial projects are highlighted in yellow.
