Edward Collins was a Korean War veteran

Edward Collins, age 87, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 12, 2021.  He was surrounded by his loving children and son-in-law.

Ed was born to the late John Collins Sr. and Cecil (Baughman) Collins on October 10, 1933.    

Ed was a veteran of the Korean War.  For his service, was awarded a Bronze Star.  He served honorably in the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant.  He was a lifetime member of the Arlington AmVets and the Arlington VFW Post #4510.  

Following his honorable discharge, Ed married the love of his life, Marilyn Sue Collins, who preceded him in death.  They were married fifty-eight years. 

Ed is survived by his three children: Michael Collins of Ada, Cheryl (Joseph) Mattias of Hudsonville, MI and Terry Collins of Ada; and three grandchildren: Philip Mattias, Emily Mattias and Andrew Mattias; a sister, Joyce (Collins) LaRue; and several nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by his son, Timothy Ernest Collins; two brothers: Earl Collins and John Collins, Jr.; and five sisters: Betty (Collins) Rodabaugh, Ellen (Collins) Price, Patty Collins, Millie (Collins) Price and Carol (Collins) Coons.

Ed was a farmer and was formerly trained in the tool and die trade. He worked in tool and die for nearly sixty years, retiring as a tool and guage inspector from Dana Corporation in 1995.  Ed was a former Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendant and served on the Elder Board at the Grace Gospel Church of Ada.  His hobbies included fixing cars, reading and following the Reds, Bengals and The Ohio State Buckeyes sports.  Ed was a loving, devoted husband, father and grandfather.   

Private family services will be held at St. Matthew Lutheran Church Cemetery, Cridersville with Pastor Trent Boedicker officiating, with military honors conducted by the Lima VFW Post #1275 Honor Guard and the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard.
