Conrad W. Hughes, 91, passed away peacefully at Kenton Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in the presence of loving family on Wednesday, May 26, 2021.
He was born in Lima, Ohio, on Nov. 13, 1929, to the late Rush and Ruth (Gossard) Hughes. He married Ronda L. Underwood on Feb. 14, 1950, and she survives in Kenton.
Also surviving are his children: Mike (Ione) Hughes of Kenton, Susan (Jerry) Lupfer of Groveport, Greg Hughes of Put-in-Bay and Angela Pifer of Rushsylvania; a brother, Don (Connie Lou) Hughes of Bellefontaine.
Grandchildren include: Jeray, Tiffany, Bridget, Ashley, April, Stewart, Jason, Nathan, Celeste and Chad; and great-grandchildren include: Wyatt, Austen, Savannah, Zachry, Cody, Jayden, Riley, Khloe, Anderson, Simon, Nolan, Audra, Malia, Gianna, Olivia and Jackson.
Conrad was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis; sister, Betty Jo; grandson, Bradley; and daughter-in-law, Pam.
Conrad served in the Korean War. Upon returning home he worked at his father’s onion farm in Michigan. Later he was an operation leverman at Erie-Lackawanna Railroad, which later became known as Conrail. On retirement he volunteered at the Senior Citizen Center and Hardin Memorial Hospital. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed sharing this passion with his family.
Attendance will be restricted at the funeral and visitation based on space to accommodate social distancing requirements. Face coverings must be worn while attending visitation and service.
Funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 1, at Hanson-Neely-Allison Funeral & Cremation Services, Alger, with Pastor Don Clinger officiating.
Burial will be in Preston Cemetery, Alger with graveside military services conducted by the Ada VFW Post #9381 and the U.S. Army Honor Guard.
