ONU vaccine clinics impacted by J&J dose recommendations
Ohio Northern University’s state-sponsored COVID-19 mobile mass vaccination clinics scheduled in Hardin, Logan, Union, Marion Crawford and Wyandot counties have been paused in accordance with the State of Ohio’s action related to the CDC and FDA recommendations Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine administration. Options for resuming future clinics are being explored.
“We have paused scheduling any further appointments at any clinic,” says ONU College of Pharmacy Dean Steven Martin, Pharm.D. ONU’s HealthWise Mobile Clinic is hoping to acquire a different vaccine so that clinics can resume as soon as possible, he says. ONU pharmacy personnel have a call scheduled this afternoon with Ohio Governor Mike DeWine’s office to discuss potential options for alternative vaccine brand administration.
“We are hopeful that the state can send us a different vaccine so we can keep going,” says Martin.
Those who have scheduled clinic appointments, along with the general public, can expect to receive updated information about rescheduled clinics as soon as that information becomes available; HealthWise clinics have been scheduled at various sites through May, and it is hoped that most of those will take place as scheduled. Meanwhile, clinic organizers and state officials are working to acquire two-dose Pfizer and Moderna vaccines while the one-dose Johnson & Johnson brand use remains suspended.
DeWine’s website has more information about the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine pause.
