Tennis: Ada blanks Fostoria

Weather-permitting, Bulldogs entertain Wapak today

By Cort Reynolds
FOSTORIA - The visiting Ada tennis team blanked Fostoria 5-0 Wednesday evening to earn their first win of the season.

The Bulldogs improved to 1-2 after the victory.

"It was good to get the first team win," said Ada head coach Dexter Woods.

Ada senior Miranda Wills earned her initial win of the season at first singles in straight sets.

"The first set featured numerous long rallies," said Woods. "Second set was shorter and more efficient as Miranda hit numerous well-placed approach shots that forced opponent errors, or that were followed by winning volleys."

Bulldog junior southpaw Dexter Woods III rolled to a double-bagel victory at second singles. "He played a nice all-court game, including some serve and volley in the second set," said the coach.

Brendan Jameson rallied to win a tough three-setter at third singles. After winning the second set, he led 6-0 in the third-set tiebreaker at one point before winning, 10-5.

"Brendan lost a closely-contested first set after being up 4-1, but came back strong in the second set and in the tiebreaker," said Woods.

"In the second set, he stayed aggressive with strong groundstrokes and appropriately-timed approach shots right through the final point."

The Bulldog first doubles tandem of Amelia Alexander and Cole Anspaugh won by default, as did the second doubles duo of Ashlyn Madison and Geddes Klingler.

"Fostoria, short of players, forfeited those two positions," Woods explained. "Ada's eight doubles players were able to play two rounds of intersquad matches on Fostoria's five-court layout while enjoying the play of the singles players."

Individual match results:
1st singles: Miranda Wills (Ada) def. Dom Settles 6-2, 6-1
2nd singles: Dexter Woods (Ada) def. Wyatt Cobb 6-0, 6-0
3rd singles: Brendan Jameson (Ada) def. Zach Ward 6-7 (6-8), 6-2, 1-0 (10-5)

1st doubles: Amelia Alexander/Cole Anspaugh (Ada) won by forfeit
2nd doubles: Ashlyn Madison/Geddes Klingler (Ada) won by forfeit

Weather permitting, Ada is scheduled to host Wapakoneta Thursday, April 8, at 4:30 p.m.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to entertain another WBL foe, Ottawa-Glandorf, April 12 at 4:30 p.m.
