Senior Cory Martin recorded his 100th career hit and the Ohio Northern baseball team turned a triple play in a double header split at Heidelberg on Sunday at Peaceful Valley Field.
The Polar Bears are now 12-13 on the season and 3-5 in OAC play, while the Student Princes fall to 13-15, 3-5.
In Game 2, Martin ripped a double down the left field line to tie the game at 3-3 in the eighth inning for his milestone hit.
He is the 56th player in ONU baseball history to reach 100 career hits.
Northern also turned a triple play in the third inning.
Steve Morse of Heidelberg lined out to senior firstbaseman Kevin Obarski, who then threw to freshman shortstop Alex Crabtree who tagged second base and the runner, giving the Polar Bears all three outs in the inning.
Heidelberg struck for two runs in the eighth inning to take a 5-3 lead and ONU could not capitalize on a leadoff walk in the top half of the ninth.
Steve Huber (3-2) picked up the win for the Student Princes, firing 6.1 innings and giving up just one run.
Freshman Cal VonStein took the loss and falls to 0-2 on the year.
In Game 1, the Polar Bears broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the seventh.
Freshman Grant Wilson ripped a 1-out double to left and freshman Nick Eltzroth reached on an error.
Sophomore Dan Belliveau hit into a fielder's choice, moving Wilson to third.
Junior Matt Magni then hit a go ahead RBI single to score Wilson and put Northern on top, 4-3.
Senior Austin Price (3-2) worked around a single in the seventh and notched his team leading third complete game of the season.
Sophomore Jack LaMarca paced ONU, going 2-for-4 with a RBI.
Heidelberg struck first in the third inning on an RBI single.
The Polar Bears answered back in the fourth with two runs of their own.
Eltzorth led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch.
Obarski walked and LaMara laced a single to score Eltroth and tie the game at 1-1.
Martin reached on an error and freshman Alex Crabtree grounded into a fielders choice, scoring Obarski and giving Northern the 2-1 lead.
Heidelberg came right back to tie the game in the fourth and take the lead in the fifth, on RBI singles.
ONU tied the game at 3-3 in the sixth inning on a RBI single to left by Martin that scored sophomore Derek Lenardos.
Ohio Northern has a quick turnaround and and will host a double header at Wander Field against Mount Union at 1 pm.
