Ada Schools: "No plans to cancel graduation; may have to move the date"

Heres updates on graduation requirements, spring tests, cancellations

Here is the March 31 update from Ada schools, from the school website. Information about spring athletics is in the story below, or click here.

Spring Testing
 There will be no state spring testing. This, then, negates the third grade guarantee. If you are the parent of a third grade student and have questions, please reach out to Mr. Thaxton.

Graduation Requirements
 The state has adjusted the requirements for graduation. Seniors should focus on their current classwork and meet the local requirements for graduation. If there are seniors that are at risk, those students and parents should be hearing from administration in the next week or so. Please make sure if messages are left or emails sent that you return those right away and not wait too long to find out how to get your senior on track to graduate.

Kindergarten Registration and Screening
 Our Kindergarten registration has been transitioned to online via Final Forms.

 We are holding off on deciding when to have screening. It may look different. We may wait until summer or fall. We will communicate with families when we decide.

 Please encourage families of age appropriate Kindergarten students to get registered so we may plan accordingly and have everyone’s contact information.

Spring Break
 We had a spring break planned for April 10th through the 14th, with a make-up day due to calamity days on April 15th .

 We are going to honor the 10th and 14th as a true spring break, with no live meetings, no new assignments, no assignments due over those days. Take this time to unplug and breathe a little from the flurry of figuring out this “new normal” in your children’s schooling.

 April 15 will be a “make up day” in that we will also not be doing live instruction or providing new assignments. This should be a review or catch up day for students who need to catch up on late work or missing assignments.

For the rest of our students, we encourage enrichment activity, outdoor activity (while still honoring our Governor’s social distancing guidelines and orders), family game time, etc. This day will count as a school day as was planned.

 There will be no food distribution during spring break. I will be sending a food distribution specific update later this week.

Trips
 The D.C. trip has been rescheduled for next spring. The 9th graders will have the option to travel with the 8th grade group next spring

 We are holding on Camp Willson, though we have communicated with them, and cancelling will not be a difficult scenario. Let’s hope we don’t have to, though.

 The Disney trip is now cancelled. The tour company, Bob Rogers Travel will be sending an email out regarding the trip. If you have other questions, please contact Mr. Henning ([email protected]). Thank you to Mr. Henning for staying in contact with them.

Graduation
 We very much recognize the loss that our seniors are feeling at so many of their “lasts” disappearing. We continue to hold onto our plans for graduation, but will await the next Governor order at the end of April to make a decision.

 We have no plans to cancel graduation, but recognize we may have to move the date, venue, etc. We love our seniors and we want to honor them for this important milestone. We are not giving up on this event. Interclass Competition

Interclass Competition
 One of the longest running academic traditions in Ada High School’s history, some of our amazing High School staff and administrators are working on holding Interclass in a digital format. We will be sharing details shortly and we are so excited to still be able to offer this. Thanks to the staff for working hard to uphold this cherished tradition.
