Kendal Guagenti, senior at Ada High School, is the February Mid-Ohio Energy Cooperative student of the month. The Icon had an opportunity to talk with her recently. Here is a portion of that interview.
Icon: What’s your class schedule this year?
Kendal: Psychology/sociology, economics/public speaking, physics, literature and film, pre-calculus and trigonometry, computer apps/study hall, Art 4 and Spanish 4.
Icon: Think way back to Kindergarten. What do you remember?
Kendal: I was in Mrs. Gossard’s class and sat in a table with Katie Butterfield, Ella Poling and Phil Coulson. I remember the 100th day in school. We celebrated it.
Icon: What are your college plans?
Kendal: I’ve been accepted at Miami and John Carroll. I’m planning to attend Miami and major in physical therapy. I’d like to work in a hospital. I became interested in physical therapy as a result of a back injury experienced in volleyball during by sophomore season.
Icon: Where have you worked in a job in the summer?
Kendal: Hefner’s Dairy Barn on 309.
Icon: What’s the most popular item ordered?
Kendal: Milkshakes.
Icon: Is there a movie you’ve watched so many times that you could turn off the volume and say all the lines?
Kendal: That would be Mama Mia. I’ve watched it too many times to count with my mom, and sisters.
Icon: Of all the classes you are taking now, what’s one of your favorites?
Kendal: Sociology.
Icon: Can you name a book that has made an impact on you?
Kendal: “I Am Malala.” It’s a true story by Malala Yousafzai, a girl who stood up for education and was shot by the Taliban.
Icon: What are some of your interests outside of school?
Kendal: I’ve attended volleyball camp in the summer and was a member of Liberty Belles and Boys 4-H Club. My real interest in 4-H was cake decorating. I’m also a volunteer in the nursery at First United Methodist Church. I was also a queen candidate at last summer’s Harvest and Herb Festival.
Icon: How about your school activities?
Kendal: In school I was honorable mention in the Northwest Conference in volleyball this season. I was also a senior homecoming attendant. I’m president of the senior class, and that means that I’ll be the master of ceremonies at this year’s Interclass competition.
I was captain of the volleyball team. I play tennis, am student council president, film club president and a member of the National Honor Society. I also am in ethics bowl and am a member of the Lettuce Club. (Click here for an explanation)
Icon: What style of music do you like?
Kendal: R and B. I’ve attended concerts in Cincinnati, Columbus and Michigan.
Icon: Your favorite musician?
Kendal: Khalid. I’ve seen the Dixie Chicks with my mom.
Icon: Do you have any interests, collections or hobbies that your friends don’t know about? You know, something that might surprise them to learn about you?
Kendal: I collect old cameras and go antiquing with my mom.
Icon: Tell us about your tattoos.
Kendal: Don’t have any.
Icon: If you did, what would they be?
Kendal: Probably a hummingbird or a butterfly.
Thank you for talking with us and good luck in the rest of the school year and beyond.
