The Ohio Northern women's tennis team advanced in the 2012 OAC Tournament following a 6-0 quarterfinal round win over Muskingum on Tuesday at University Courts.
The win moves the top-seeded Polar Bears to 20-4 on the season, while the Muskies end the 2011-12 campaign at 4-11.
Northern was able to get the victory outdoors even with the threat of rain moving into the area. ONU started with a sweep of doubles courts, as junior Christie Gales and sophomore Michelle Tuma won No. 1 doubles, 8-0.
Freshmen Brittany Miller and Kristin Cellentani followed up with an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles, followed by a 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles, courtesy of sophomores Lauren Rife and Carly Olmstead.
In singles action, Tuma and Cellentani each won their respective courts, 6-0, 6-0, while sophomore Kelsi Wurm also picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles.
The Polar Bears advance to the semifinals to face the winner of the fourth-seeded Mount Union on Friday, May 4 at 1 p.m. The Purple Raiders won its quarterfinal match against No. 5 seed Baldwin-Wallace, 5-1.
The semifinal and final rounds of the 2012 OAC Women's Tennis Tournament will be held at the Lindner Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio this weekend.
