OSU Extension in Hardin County seeks renewal
OSU Extension in Hardin County is seeking the renewal of a 0.35 mill, 5-year tax levy on the Nov. 6 ballot to continue existing programs in 4H, agriculture, and family consumer science. This will generate $192,000 annually for the county programs.This costs the average homeowner $20 per year.
Some of the newer programs offered through the Extension include:
* 4H Tech Wizards, which provides weekly technology classes to Ada and Kenton students after school;
* Mental health first aid programs in Ada and Kenton with Upper Scioto Valley to join soon.
Also, the local Extension Office conducts agricultural research studies, gathers data on crops, and holds classes and seminars on farming issues. Mental health programs are provided to the schools. The levy allows the Extension to apply for matching state and federal grants, which brings about $200,000 to the county. The tax funds also provide money for SNAP education programs.
Mark Light, of the Hardin County OSU Extension Office, pointed out that the renewal will not increase taxes.
