January: month of extreme temperatures
January was a month of extreme temperatures, with a high of 64 and low of 4 degrees, according to Guy Verhoff, local weather observer.
The month reached 64 degrees F twice, once on Jan. 13 and once on Jan. 30. There was a total of six days that reached 50 degrees or above in January and four of those days were above 60 degrees.
The low of four degrees was observed on Jan. 22.
This represents a 60 degree swing within one month. And it seems we are at the low end of any sort of swing now.
Our average high temperature for January was 37.3 degrees F, which is 14 degrees above the historical average.
As for precipitation and snow, we started out the month with eight inches of ground cover but ended the month with no measurable snow on the ground. All in all, precipitation was minimal or trace throughout the month.
