Ada Legion sponsors five to Buckeye Girls State

Lindsey Fry, Shyanne Howard, Anabel Alexander, Kama Arn, Morgan Swick

Ada American Legion Post 185 announces the selection of five delegates to Buckeye Girls State.  The delegates are Lindsey Fry, Shyanne Howard, Anabel Alexander, Kama Arn, and Morgan Swick.

Lindsey Fry is the daughter of Jason and Jayna Fry and attends Upper Scioto Valley High School. She has been a member of Student Council for 3 years, a class officer for 2 years, a member of Business Professional of America for 3 years, one year as an officer, USV local Honor Society, Key Club, and Varsity volleyball for 2 years.

Shyanne Howard is the daughter of Angela Howard and attends Upper Scioto Valley High School. She has been here class president her freshman, sophomore, and junior years.  A member of Business Professional of America (BPA) and has served as treasurer her sophomore and junior years.  A USV local Honor Society member.  She plays both Varsity Volleyball and Varsity Basketball.  She has been a member of Student Council and has worked on the Prom Committee.  She is also a member of Girl’s Ministry and the yearbook staff, BPA regional and state selection committee and the Student Athlete Leadership Team.

Anabel Alexander is the daughter of Robert and Shelleigh Alexander and attends  Ada High School.  Anabel is a cheerleader for football and basketball where she has been named Captain and MVP.  She has been three time UCA All American Cheerleader.  She is a 3 year member of Varsity Track and the Language Club.  She is also active in Film Club, 4-H, and Choir.  She has attended HOBY and is a member of Gatekeepers and Book Club.  She belongs to the Youth Group at Our lady of Lourdes Catholic Church  and helps with Summer Bible School and the Ada Food Pantry.  She also teaches gymnastics at Cynergy in Kenton.

Kama Arn is the daughter of Scott and Corsie Arn and attends  Ada High School.  Kama has served on Student Council and as class treasurer.  She is in both the Film Club and the Language Club.  She is a member of the National Honor Society.  She is also a Varsity cheerleader.  She is a member of Varsity Singers Show Choir where she is senior dance captain and section leader.  She also is a member of the Soccer team.  She volunteers every year at ONU Welcome Fest and at local soup kitchen events, and as a teacher’s aid.

Morgan Swick is the daughter of James and Erin Swick and attends Ada High School.  Morgan has served on Student Council.  She is involved in Varsity Volleyball and Track and is a member of the school Quiz Bowl Team.

This years Buckeye Girls State will be the 72nd annual.  It will be held at the University of Mount Union in Alliance from June 10 to June 16.

Buckeye Girls State is a fast paced program of mock government at the state, county and local levels.  The main objective of the Girls State program is to train young women, who have completed their junior year in Senior High School, in the duties, rights, and privileges of citizenship by providing attendees the opportunity to actively participate in a democratic form of government.  Nearly 900 high school girls participate in this week-long government-in-action workshop sponsored by the Ohio American Legion  Auxiliary

American Legion Post 185 also sponsors boys for Buckeye Boys State held the same week at Miami of Ohio, However, this year no boys applied.
