Eight Ohio Northern men's soccer students/athletes were voted Academic All-OAC for the 2012 season in voting done by the league's 10 faculty advisors.
Senior Nate Bascom, Mac Church, and Austin Windsor, juniors Jeremy Barnes, Brett Bomba, Matt Fleming, Stephen Perkins and Ken Wachtel all earned selections for Northern.
Bascom earned his second straight Academic All-OAC selection. He was also named CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year and was also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team.
Bascom, a biology major, broke the single season school record in assists and points with 18 and 54 respectively.
He concludes his career as the career leader in assists with 43 and points with 155.
Bascom also ends his Polar Bear career with 56 goals, which ties him for the most in school history with ONU head coach Brent Ridenour.
Church, a sport management major, is tied for the most matches played in program history with 98. He is the all-time leader in career shutouts with 47 and ranks second in saves with 350.
This season, Church posted a school record 15 shutouts, including a school record seven in a row, and made 77 saves while giving up 0.77 goals per game.
Windsor was also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team. He is majoring in mechanical engineering.
Windsor was named OAC Defender of the Year and anchored a defense that gave up just 21 goals this season.
He scored a career high six goals this season and also added three assists.
Barnes is majoring in pharmacy and started in 24 matches for the Polar Bears. He scored a career high nine goals and added nine assists, which was also a career best.
Barnes also earned an OAC Player of the Week selection on September 10.
Bomba saw limited action this season, appearing in nine games. He recorded on assists on the season in his reserve role.
Bomba is majoring in mechanical engineering.
Fleming, a double major in international business and spanish, earned the Elite 89 Award at the NCAA Final Four.
The defender posted a career high four assists while being a career contributer for the Polar Bears defensive unit. He now has eight assists for his career.
Perkins appeared in all 28 matches for the Polar Bears this season. He is majoring in mechanical engineering.
Perkins scored a registered career high's with three goals and three assists on the season.
Wachtel has a major in mechanical engineering. He appeared in seven games for the Polar Bears as a defender.
Northern finished their season with a 25-3 mark and won their second straight OAC Regular Season Championship and third consecutive OAC Tournament Championship.
The Polar Bears also had a historic run through the NCAA III Tournament, appearing in their first National Championship.
