ONU OAC Players of the Week
Emily Richards---Women's Outdoor Track
ADA — Ohio Northern junior Emily Richards(Delaware/Hayes) has been named the Women's Outdoor Ohio Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week for the week of Mar. 19-25.
Richards turned in another record setting performance as she competed in the Raleigh Relays hosted by North Carolina State University in Raleigh, N.C.
On the first day of the invitational, Richards broke the school record, ran the fastest time nationally among Div. III athletes, and ran the tenth fastest time in Div. III history in the 1,500-meter run in 4:23.21.
Richards finished sixth overall in the Div. I-dominated field.
On the final day of the invitational, Richards finished second overall and was the first collegiate athlete to cross the finish line in the 800-meter run, falling only to professional runner Kenyetta Iyevbele in the event.
The junior posted the fastest time in the country after finishing the race in 2:06.06, and currently owns the fastest time in the event across all three divisions.
The Polar Bears return to the track this weekend as Northern competes in the Centre (Ky.) Invitational.
Matt Molinaro---Men's Outdoor Track
ADA — Junior Matt Molinaro (Sterling Heights, Mich./DeLaSalle) has been named the Men's Outdoor Ohio Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week for the week of Mar. 19-25.
Molinaro led a select group of Polar Bear participants at the Raleigh Relays hosted by North Carolina State University in Raleigh, N.C.
The junior ran a new personal best time and third fastest time in school history in the 1,500-meter run and finished 23rd overall in the race in 3:50.83.
Molinaro's time currently ranks second best in the country among Div. III athletes.
On the second day of the meet, Molinaro won the 800-meter run in a Div. I-dominated field in 1:49.30.
His time currently ranks first nationally.
The Polar Bears return to the track this weekend as Northern competes in the Centre (Ky.) Invitational.
Lucas Blaszyk---Lacrosse Offensive
ADA — Sophomore Lucas Blaszyk (Spencerport, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Mar. 19-25.
The sophomore earned the honor for the first time in his career.
Blaszyk posted Hat Tricks in each of ONU's wins last week.
He scored three goals in an 18-4 win over Adrian (Mich.) and four goals in a 21-7 win at Franciscan.
Blaszyk's seven goals came in a balanced attack that saw 13 different Polar Bears score at least one goal.
The Polar Bears return to action Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. as they travel to Alliance to take on Mount Union in their OAC-opener.
