ONU has five women's soccer members with academic honors

The Ohio Northern women's soccer team saw five members earn Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association Academic All-Ohio honors for the 2016 season.

Senior Shelby Stephens (Cypress, Tex./Cypress Woods) was named OCSA First Team Academic All-Ohio, while seniors Missy Ward (Columbus/Westerville North) and Haley Napier (Beavercreek) and juniors Hannah Reich(Howell, Mich.) and Anna Niemeyer (Loveland) each earned OCSA Second Team Academic All-Ohio accolades.

Stephens, a Marketing major from Cypress, Tex., earned her second consecutive OCSA First Team All-Ohio honor.

Stephens led the team and ranked fifth in the OAC with nine goals.

The senior also ranked first on the team and tied for fourth in the conference with 24 points and finished her career tied for seventh all-time at ONU with 21 career assists.

Ward, a Pharmacy major from Columbus, was named OCSA Academic All-Ohio for the second time in her career.

Ward was tied for third on the team with five goals and had a team-best .654 shots on goal percentage among those with 10 or more shots on goal.

Napier, a Criminal Justice/Pre-Law major from Beavercreek, earned her first career OCSA Academic All-Ohio honor.

The senior appeared in and started all 19 contests for the Polar Bears and scored one goal.

Reich, an Athletic Training major from Howell, Mich., earned the honor for the first time in her career.

The junior defender appeared in all 19 contests for the Polar Bears, making 18 starts.

Reich recorded one goal on the season.

Niemeyer, a Marketing major from Loveland, also earned the honor for the first time in her career.

Niemeyer appeared in all 19 contests, making 16 starts and scored four goals and added an assist.

The Polar Bears finished the season as OAC Regular Season Champs and finished 15-4-0 under 13th-year head coach Mark Batman.
