Doris Tackett 1930 - 2016

Doris Tackett, 86, died at 7:45 p.m. on Nov. 23, 2016, at The Rivers Rehabilitation Facility in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan.

She was born Feb. 9, 1930 in Honaker, Kentucky, to Sidney and Gertrude Kidd Parsons, who preceded her in death. On April 23, 1949 she married Oscar B. Tackett, the love of her life, who preceded her in death in 2013. They were married for 63 years.

As a young married couple, Oscar and Doris moved to Michigan to work and raise their family. Doris was an extraordinary homemaker and cook. She raised four children and always took pride in her homecooked meals and pies, for which she was famous. She also spent years working as a nurse's aide at Martha T. Berry medical care facility in Mt. Clemens, Mich.

Doris and Oscar retired to farm life in Foraker, Ohio in 1986. They were members of the Church of Christ in Kenton, and the East Elm Street Church of Christ in Lima. Doris was also an active member of the Fortnightly Book Club and the Hardin County Herb Society. She grew vegetables, flowers and herbs, and took great pleasure in her gardens.

Survivors include three sons, Christopher Lynn Tackett of Ferndale, MI., Joseph Austin (Mandy) Tackett of Lake Orion, MI.,and David Paul (Pamela) Tackett of Elizabethtown, KY., a daughter, Rebecca Ann (Jim) Zerilli of Grosse Pointe, MI., three grandchildren, James Abraham (Kate) Zerilli, Samantha Ashley (James) Conley, Sasha Alexis (Cord) Pyles, and one great-grandson, Benjamin Michael Zerilli. She is also survived by a brother, Millard Parsons (Millie) of KY., and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Samuel Lee Tackett, three sisters and three brothers.

Services will begin at 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 28,  at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home in Alger. Dick Miller will officiate. Burial will be in McDonald-Fairview Cemetery, Kenton.

Friends and family may call on Monday, November 28, 2016 from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation, services and burial will be held in one day.
