Ohio Northern University’s Freed Center for the Performing Arts presents Band-O-Rama on Sunday, Oct. 28, at 4 p.m.
The Ohio Northern University Marching Band (ONUMB) offers an exciting performance to celebrate another successful season when they perform selections from their 2012 premier program, “Sound Dramas.”
The “Star of the Northwest” will perform the classical hit “Carmina Burana” by 20th-century composer Carl Orff and the finale from Igor Stravinsky’s “Firebird Suite.” Other selections include “The Theme from Hawaii Five-O” and “King Of Anything.” The show will close with “El Toro Caliente.” The soloists are Maggie Sant (mellophone), a fourth-year pharmacy major from West Chester, Ohio; Jenelle Sperry (trumpet), a sophomore music education major from Van Wert, Ohio; and Kevin Aring (trumpet), a sophomore mathematics major from Avon, Ohio.
The ONUMB also celebrates the music of Frank Sinatra as they present songs from their second show, “Singing Sinatra.” The ONUMB will perform some of Sinatra’s biggest hits, such as “Come Fly With Me,” “Fly Me To The Moon” and “New York, New York.”
The band also will play a wide variety of other popular music including Louis Prima’s “Sing, Sing, Sing,” “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey and “Defying Gravity” from the musical “Wicked.”
The band will be conducted by field conductors Samantha Riedlinger, a senior music education major from Sycamore, Ohio; Zachary Lee, a senior forensic biology major from Zanesville, Ohio; and Andrew Brubaker, a fourth-year pharmacy major from Maumee, Ohio. Caroline Mangan, a senior marketing major from Garrettsville, Ohio, is the guard captain, and Kelly Holtgrefe, a sophomore marketing major from Cincinnati, Ohio, is the feature twirler. The drumline captain is Jeffrey Martin, a senior music education major from Cincinnati, Ohio. The auxiliaries are directed by Dr. Michele Mangan, and the band is under the direction of Dr. Charles Bates.
