Ohio Northern University to present ‘Capitol Steps’

Ohio Northern University’s Freed Center for the Performing Arts will present “Capitol Steps” in the Stambaugh Theatre on Friday, Oct. 26, at 7:30 p.m.

Thirty years ago, the Capitol Steps began as a group of Senate staffers who set out to satirize the very people and places that employed them. Although not all of the current Steps members are former Capitol Hill staffers, collectively, the performers have worked in a total of 18 Congressional offices and represent 62 years of collective House and Senate staff experience.

Since they began, the Capitol Steps have recorded more than 30 albums, including their latest, “Desperate Housemembers,” and their special holiday release, “Barackin’ Around the Christmas Tree.” They’ve been featured on NBC, CBS, ABC and PBS, and can be heard four times a year on National Public Radio stations nationwide during their “Politics Takes a Holiday” radio specials.

Tickets are $25 for general admission and $13 for students and children. The Freed Center box office is open Monday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Phone orders are accepted with American Express, MasterCard, VISA or Discover by calling 419-772-1900. Tickets also are available online at www.freedcenter.com

The performance of “Capitol Steps” is underwritten in part by Quest Federal Credit Union, The Lima News, and Courtyard Marriott in Lima.

A pre-show dinner special will be offered from 4 to 7 p.m. at Padrone’s Pizza at 219 North Main Street in Ada. “Capital Steps” ticketholders will receive a 20 percent discount on any regularly priced menu item.
