Ada Kiwanis has busy fall agenda

President Elect- Heather Cox called the 2nd meeting (October 9th) of the 2012–2013 Kiwanis year to order at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday October 9 at McIntosh Center, ONU.

The invocation was offered by Jon Umphress. 

The birthday of member Brian Myers (October 9th) was noted.

Member Accomplishments: Jeff Schulman was formally elected as Lt. Governor-Elect (Division 2) at the Ohio Kiwanis Governor’s visit Monday night in Bellefontaine. Jon Umphress was also in attendance.

In business:
-Members heard an updated financial report from Brian Marshall, club treasurer.

-Secretary Brian Myers reported the following: the monthly report was filed on time, the club’s annual membership information has been filed and he will file the Kiwanis membership reduction form has been forwarded to the Ohio Kiwanis Secretary

-The club will sponsor Crock Pot Tuesday on October 16th at Restore. Harold Friesner reported that the club will be serving sauerkraut, mashed potatoes and sausage. Members were recruited to assist.

-The annual Town and Gown Banquet is set for Monday November 5th. Myrna McCurdy is a member of the committee and will have nomination forms for Citizen of the Year. Tickets are available. Please contact Bryan Marshall.

-Our membership dues are due on Friday of this week. Funds should be directed to Bryan Marshall, Treasurer.

-The annual Halloween Parade will be held on October 29th. Joe Ferguson reported that club will fill candy bags at our October 23rd meeting. 

-The club’s annual spaghetti dinner is scheduled for November 15th at the Ada VFW. Peter Previte is chairman.  Peter’s committee consists of: Charles Van Dyne and Harold Friesner

- The membership passed in the Dues Reduction program for family members. The club members agreed to recruit more families to join the club.

-The next Division 2 Council meeting will be held on October 30th at the St. Mary’s Eagles Lodge. It will begin 5:30 pm.

-Club member Bill Fuller supplied the weekly joke.

-Kiwanis Education Minute: The average club loses one member in five each year. For example, in a club with 50 members, an average of eight or so members leaves each year. Thus, eight new members must be recruited just for the club to remain the same size.

-Something to consider: In the average lifetime, a person will walk the equivalent of 5 times around the equator.

Member Joe Ferguson presented an interesting program detailing the many aspects of life insurance and particular policies to meet various needs.
President-Elect Cox adjourned the meeting at 1:10 p.m. p.m.
The Ada Kiwanis Club meets each Tuesday at 12:00 noon in McIntosh Center, ONU. Guests are always welcome.
