The Ohio Northern University Department of Music will present an opera workshop, featuring ONU vocal majors, in Presser Hall’s Snyder Recital Hall on Friday, Oct. 12, at 8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
The opera workshop, under the direction of ONU adjunct voice instructor Micah Graber, will consist of scenes from various operas, including “Don Giovanni,” “The Marriage of Figaro,” “Hansel and Gretel,” “Suzannah, “La Traviata,” “The Magic Flute” and “The Merry Wives of Windsor.” The staged and costumed scenes will be accompanied by student pianist Chris Gray, a sophomore performance major from Hopedale, Ohio.
As part of the vocal curriculum, the opera workshop is designed to give Ohio Northern students the opportunity to perform staged works, including aria and scene recitals, one-act operas, and full-length works with orchestra.
Graber has performed with the San Francisco Opera and Symphony, Santa Fe Opera, Skylight Opera, Marin Opera, Sacramento Symphony, and Toledo Opera and Symphony.
A second opera workshop will be held during the spring semester under the direction of Kirsten Osbun-Manley, ONU resident artist and lecturer in music and musical theatre.
