During Tuesday's election, Mara Guyton, an 18-year-old senior at Ada High School, was elected Democrat precinct representative for Liberty Township. She ran unopposed.

Mara was Olivia's campaign manager for Homecoming attendant, so, naturally, Olivia was Mara's campaign manager for precinct committee person.
Mara has high hopes...to some day be a U.S. Senator. She says she has been interested in government and politics since she was 6 years old. Sister Olivia plans to be a nurse.
Mara will enroll at either ONU or Rio Grande University, the alma mater of her parents. She is the daughter of Steve Guyton of Alger and Christine Cavallaro of TR 55.
Why a Democrat? Mara said she feels the Democrats are more concerned and helpful to low-income citizens.
Mara said she talked with Don Traxler at a dinner at the Ada Schools about her interest in politics. Don encouraged her to register to vote and complete the paperwork to be on the ballot to represent the township. So, she did.
Don has been interested in Democratic politics for many years, even having been elected mayor of Ada in what is largely a Republican village.
Olivia had it easy this time around since her candidate was unopposed. However, when Mara gets to the Senate level in politically-competitive Ohio, her work will be cut out for her.
Maybe Mara will follow in the footsteps of Senator Simeon D. Fess. He was born in Harrod and graduated from ONU. But Fess was a Republican.
