This is a story about a poet and an artist with a little bit of music thrown in...the fine arts.
The ONU art and English departments hosted two men on Wednesday evening at the Wilson Art Center to discuss a book they collabrated on with the long title "Like a Bird Entering a Window and Leaving through Another Window."
So, how do two people successfully work together in publishing a book of writings and illustration?
Philip Terman, the poet, and James Stewart, the artist, explained that they have similar sensibilities.
Also, they have a lot of other things in common: both married with children, are spiritual, live in a rural area (northern Pennsylvania) and love gardening and nature.
Terman has published 8 books of poetry. He teaches at Clarion University. Stewart makes his living as a painter, mostly oils.
At the ONU conclave Wednesday, the writer read several of his poems to the 30 students and faculty gathered in the gallery. The artist told the audience how they worked together.
How does music fit into the equation? They were introduced to each other by a mutual friend who plays in a jazz band. The result: a beautiful book of words and art.
