"Play Hardball Against ALS" on April 20 in Ada

Did you know that 1 in 50,000 individuals is afflicted with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
(ALS), a non-curable (as of now) disease affecting the nervous system and
muscles. Amazingly, in this area the number is closer to 1 in 7,000!

Perhaps most people know of this disease by the name "Lou Gehrig's Disease", named after the famed New York Yankee baseball player.

Relating the baseball connection to ALS. A challenge is going out to set the
Ohio Athletic Conference Baseball Attendance record.

Burns leads men's golf to fourth place finish at Trine (Ind.) A.C. Eddy Invitational

Junior Colin Burns carded a 5-over par 76 to lead the Ohio Northern men's golf team to a fourth place finish at the Trine (Ind.) A.C. Eddy Invitational on Wednesday at the Zollnerg Golf Course.

The Polar Bears (43-17-1 overall) finished fourth of six teams with a 318.

Trine won the team title with a 290, Huntington (Ind.) was second with a 298 and Calumet (Ind.) was third with a 312.

Burns finished tied for 11th out of 51 golfers with his 76 over the 6,384-yard, par-71 course.

Ohio Northern University’s SAM team captures third

A five-member team from Ohio Northern University’s Society for Advancement of Management (SAM) won third place in the Student Case Competition during the 2013 SAM International Business Conference in Arlington, Va., from March 21-24.

ONU competed in the Joseph Bush Trophy Division for undergraduate programs against a number of schools in the international competition. The ONU team, which prepared for two months, presented a case analysis and proposal for future success of Netflix.

Sen. Hite to speak at National Community Pharmacists Association reception at ONU

State Sen. Cliff Hite will be the guest speaker at the National Community Pharmacists Association’s (NCPA) annual legislative reception at The Inn at Ohio Northern University on Thursday, April 25, at 7 p.m.   

Hite will speak on the topics of entrepreneurship and independent pharmacies, current legislation affecting health care, and the importance and opportunities for student involvement in advocacy.

Hite was first appointed to the state Senate in 2011 to fill the unexpired term of state Sen. Steve Buehrer. Prior to his appointment, Hite was elected three times to the Ohio House of Representatives.

Two Ohio Northern University students selected as Goldwater scholars

Two Ohio Northern University students have been selected as Goldwater Scholars by the trustees of the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation.

This marks the ninth consecutive year that ONU students have been recognized by the trustees of the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation. During this time, 10 ONU students have been selected as Goldwater scholars, and five have received honorable mention.
