Scary Movie 5 starts Friday at Ada Theatre

Playing Friday, April 26 through Thursday, May 2 is Scary Movie 5.

Friday and Saturday shows at both 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. 

Saturday and Sunday matinees at 5 p.m.

Daily at 7 p.m.

Ticket prices are $4.

ONU pharmacy students talk about proper disposal of medications

Earth Day – April 22 – was the perfect day for third and fourth year pharmacy students from Ohio Northern University to present a program at Maple Crest, Bluffton, on the proper use of prescription drugs and the proper disposal of out-of-date medications, which includes the issue of environmental protection. 

The students are members of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP), an organization that specifically focuses on “empowering pharmacists to enhance the quality of care for all older persons through the appropriate use of medication and the promotion of healthy aging.”

The Ada Icon introduces a new music review column. Delano D. Whidbee, a university student sophomore from Flint, Mich., is the columnist.

He says: "Music has always been around my life. The different creative styles interested me from a young age."

This is more than a serious hobby for Delano. He said, "I check daily to see what new music or exclusive interviews, or music visuals have been released."

And, concerning his favorite music, he said: "I like any music I can relate to, or understand. Also, if there is some creative style to the music whether it’s the instrumental or the way everything flows together."

Men's tennis clinches share of OAC regular season title with 9-0 win over Capital

The Ohio Northern men's tennis team clinched a share of the OAC regular season championship with a 9-0 win over Capital on Wednesdat afternoon at the ONU Sports Center.

The Polar Bears are now 14-4 overall and 8-0 in the OAC, while the Crusaders drop to 11-4 overall and 6-1 in the OAC.

This is the Polar Bears third OAC regular season title in the last four seasons.

Northern can clinch the OAC regular season championship outright with a win over Muskingum on Saturday afternoon at the University Courts at 1 pm.

In doubles play, the No. 1 duo of senior Joey Frank and junior Do Thai won 8-4.

Kiwanis Club hears about work of Guiding Light, Lima

President Myrna McCurdy called the weekly meeting of the Ada Kiwanis Club on order at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23, at McIntosh Center, ONU.

The invocation was offered by Jon Umphress.

Joyce Barge was welcomed as a guest.

The birthday of member Heather Cox on April 27 was noted.

The membership anniversaries of Dustin Brooks (April 24, 2009) and David Dellifield (April 28, 2009) were also noted

Sharon MacKenzie mentioned that she attended the U.S. citizenship ceremony in Findlay last week. She noted that it was a very impressive ceremony.

ONU nurse practitioner receives Affiliate New Professional Award from ACHA

Deb Schwaiger, a certified nurse practitioner (CNP) in the Ohio Northern University Health Center, has received the Affiliate New Professional Award from the American College Health Association (ACHA). ACHA is a national nonprofit association that represents the interests of college health professionals and the campus communities they serve.

Presented for the first time in 2002, this award recognizes ACHA members who have provided service to the field of college health for three years or less and who have made significant contributions to their institutions and/or affiliate. Schwaiger is a member of the Ohio College Health Association, an ACHA affiliate.
