Last chance to bid

Linda Fleming looks over the wide variety of silent auction items at the May 6 Hospice Beacon of Hope dinner and auction. It took place in McIntosh Center on the ONU campus. It was an evening of remembrance and fun to raise funds for Community Health Professionals Hospice progrm.

ONU honors engineering education student with Catherine Freed Leadership Award

Elizabeth Spingola, a 2014 candidate for graduation in engineering education who is from Butler, Pa., was honored with the 2014 Catherine Freed Leadership Award at Ohio Northern University on May 1. The award, named for former University First Lady Catherine Freed, recognizes the outstanding female leader on campus.

An honor student, Spingola will be the first individual in the nation to graduate with a Bachelor of Science in engineering education. She is a member of Phi Sigma Rho and the ONU Joint Engineering Council, and she is one of the founding members of the ONU chapter of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE).

Village Voice: Ada pool passes now on sale

Believe it or not, summer is right around the corner and after the long, cold winter we’ve had this year, who isn’t ready for the sun and heat?! Be prepared for those hot days and opening day on May 26–buy your season passes for the Ada Pool today!

Season pool passes are on sale at the water office. Ada residents/taxpayers can get passes for $30 per person through June 2. After June 2, the cost is $40 per person. Non-residents/non-taxpayers can get passes for $60 per person through June 2. After June 2, the cost is $80 per person. A resident/taxpayer is anyone who works or lives within the Village limits and is required to file and pay Village income tax.

Northern captures fourth at Human Powered Vehicle Challenge

The Ohio Northern University chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) captured fourth place at the Human Powered Vehicle Challenge (HPVC) East competition at the University of Central Florida April 11-13.

Thirty-two teams of ASME student members took part in the competition, which consisted of three races (a men’s and women’s drag race and an endurance event) as well as design and innovation evaluations. The host school, the University of Central Florida, took top overall honors, with Rose Hulman finishing second and Franklin Olin College finishing third.
