Holiday Spectacular children's audition Sept. 14

Ohio Northern University is holding children's auditions for the “Holiday Spectacular” on Sunday, Sept. 14, at 4 p.m. at the Freed Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of Ohio Northern University.

Looking for singers and dancers ranging in age from 5-12. Children may be asked to sing and should be ready to participate in a dance call (jazz and/or tap shoes). 

No prepared dance or vocal solos, please.  Call (419) 772-1998 for details.

Swim at your own risk - pond infested with Golden Retrievers?

As the sign warns: "Swim at your own risk!"

It's doesn't mention why, however.

Could it be because the pond is infested with Golden Retrievers?

The two dogs, having a good time, are in Monty Siekerman's pond north of town. That's Caesar (Monty's Retriever) with Luke, who is holding a ball it its mouth. Luke is Harry Wilson's Retriever.

Ohio Northern University featured as a College of Distinction

Ohio Northern University has been honored as a College of Distinction for the 2014-15 school year in the 15th annual “Colleges of Distinction” guide.

“Colleges of Distinction” is a web-based guide for high school juniors and seniors trying to identify a school that is nationally recognized and highly recommended by professionals in the field of education. Colleges and universities are nominated for participation by high school counselors and then evaluated using qualitative and quantitative research.

High-level painting on Main Street

Some high-level painting is underway on Ada's Main Street this week. The top of the building that houses Beacon Realty,  208 N. Main St., is getting a new coat of paint. In our photo shoot, the Icon had difficulty trying to chose which view to post. 

So, in this story, we've posted four different views. We'll let the viewers decide which photo they like the best.

Grindell Masonry, Kenton, is the contractor for the job.

Here's Mustard Seed Cafe, Bluffton, weekend features

In addition to Mustard Seed’s Cafe, Bluffton, regular menu on Friday and Saturday nights, the following features are available this weekend:

Dinner: White fish with rhubarb compote and crème over couscous with fresh mint and almonds

Filet mignon with cabernet crème and smoked gouda over fettuccini

Light plate: Fromage with roasted beet, arugula and baguette

Dessert: Red velvet cake with coconut crème cheese frosting and a dark chocolate ganache
