Extra barbecue dinners available on Friday

There will be extra dinners available for the Ada Music Boosters annual BBQ this Friday, August 29, before Ada’s first home football game with USV.

Dinners will be available at the Ada Park on Friday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and you simply drive through the park in your car to be served. The Ada Music Boosters Chicken BBQ features a complete and delicious dinner for $8 each. Hootenannies have new sign for fair

The Hardin County Hootenannies 4-H Club members are excited about the new sign they have designed for the fair this year.

They wish to thank the wonderful artist Sara Hoenshel for painting the 4 different breeds of goats on the 4-H clover in the center and also advisor Grant Mizek  for all his work on the sign.

They hope you will come and see it in person and watch the goat show next Tuesday in the goat tent starting at 9 a.m.

24-hour sale on The Freed Center tickets today only!

The Freed Center for the Performing Arts at Ohio Northern Unversity will have a 24-hour sale on tickets for the 2014-15 season on Monday, Aug. 25. The event will run from 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.

This is an opportunity to get great deals on amazing seats for the 2014-15 season. During the 24-hour sale, all tickets are $4 for headliners and $2 for in-house productions and 24-hour sale tickets are available by walk-in or phone only 419-772-1900.

The first program of the season is ONU Defying Gravity Production on Friday, Aug. 29, at Freed Center.

Liberty Township's July rainfall 4.66 inches

In the month of July, Extension rainfall reporters recorded an average of 2.85 inches of rain in Hardin County. Last year, the average rainfall for July was 7.4 inches. With the exception of three townships, this past month was a dry month as rainfall was 1.31 inches below the 10-year average rainfall for the month of July.

Hardin Extension Office updates

Mark Badertscher of the Hardin County Extension Office provided the Icon with the following announcement concerning water quality problems in Lake Erie and it's relationship to Hardin County. 

The announcement follows:

As a result of the water quality problems in the western basin of Lake Erie, funding has been made available to Hardin County farmers who have land in the Lake Erie watershed. 

This is basically land north of State Route 309.  Funding is available through the Hardin SWCD/NRCS until Tuesday, Aug. 26.  This funding is to plant cover crops, install blind inlets and drainage control structures.

Tall flowers

In Ada flowers bloom lots of places. For example, they bloom on Main Street above where people walk. New to the downtown streetscape program this summer are hanging baskets of flowers. These are in front of the Depot park.
