Soccer: Ada girls win suspended tourney battle in shootout

The Ada girls soccer team won the resumption of its suspended Div. III first round sectional soccer match over visiting Otsego 2-1 (3-1 in a shootout) after the second overtime was scoreless Wednesday evening.

Darkness suspended play at approximately 7:20 p.m. Monday evening with the score knotted at 1-1 after one 15-minute overtime period.

The shootout victory was the first tournament win in Lady Bulldog soccer program history.

Ada, which improved to 6-10-1 with the victory, had a few solid scoring opportunities in the second OT but couldn't find the back of the net.

ADA - The white-hot Ada volleyball team defeated visiting Pandora-Gilboa
over four fairly close sets in Div. IV first round sectional play Tuesday
night.

Ada won 25-18, 25-22, 22-25, 25-20 to finish 2016 with a perfect 8-0 home
slate. The Lady Bulldogs also advanced to the district quarterfinals at
Hardin Northern Thursday with their first tournament victory since 2013.

Following their eighth consecutive triumph, the Bulldog record improved to
17-6. P-G ended up 13-10 after the loss.

Zeta Tau Alpha raises money for cancer research

Zeta Tau Alpha sorority sponsored a buffet Tuesday at The Inn, hoping to raise more than $1,000 for cancer research and education.

ONU men’s soccer team now 5th in DIII in nation

The Ohio Northern men's soccer team fell one spot to No. 5 in the seventh weekly D3soccer.comnational poll. Northern (13-0-3) is coming off of a 1-0-1 week in which it defeated Heidelberg 3-0 and posted a 1-1 tie with John Carroll.

Chicago (Ill.) remained at the No. 1 spot with 991 points and 17 first place votes, while Trinity (Tex.) came in at No. 2 with 969 points and the remaining five first place votes, and Messiah (Pa.) moved into the top-3 with 873 points.

Northern has now been nationally-ranked for six consecutive years and 10 times in the last 11 seasons. Ohio Northern moved up one spot in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll to No. 4.

Hardin Alliance accepting nominations for 2016 awards

Citizen of the year, business of the year, community service awards

The Hardin County Chamber & Business Alliance is now accepting nominations for the 2016 Citizen of the Year, Business of the Year, and Community Service Awards.  

Anyone from Hardin County may be nominated to receive these honors.  A panel of judges from Alliance members will make the final decision, and the recipients will be revealed Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017, during the Alliance’s annual meeting held at Ohio Northern University’s McIntosh Center. 

Selection of Citizen of the Year will be based upon an individual's outstanding achievements and contributions which have made Hardin County better.
