Ada spikers sweep Commodores

CRIDERSVILLE - Visiting Ada swept former league foe Perry in a non-conference match Wednesday night to finish the regular season on an up note.

The Lady Bulldogs improved their record to 10-12 overall with the 25-13, 25-19, 25-12 win. Perry dropped to 1-12 with the defeat.

Junior Megan Light hit for a team-high 14 kills and made five blocks to lead Ada. Junior Miranda Wills compiled eight kills,  nine digs and two aces.

Senior libero Kendal Guagenti mustered     up 10 digs and served a pair of aces. Versatile sophomore setter Kirsten Poling passed out 22 assists, hit five kills and served up four aces.

The high-powered Ada football team hosts fellow Bulldogs Columbus Grove Friday in a week seven Homecoming battle.

Grove capitalized on Crestview errors to beat the Knights 24-20 last Friday, knocking them out of a first-place tie in the Northwest Conference.

Two-time defending champion Spencerville sits alone atop the NWC standings at 3-0 after defeating Ada (2-4, 1-2 NWC) soundly 58-14 in week six.

CG stands 3-3 overall and is tied for second place in the NWC race with Allen East and Crestview at 2-1. Grove rates 11th in the Div. VI, Region 23 computer rankings while Ada is 21st.

Host Lincolnview clinched an outright Northwest Conference championship by sweeping the Ada volleyball team in the league season finale Tuesday night.

Lincolnview captured its fourth NWC title with the 25-20, 25-16, 25-12 win as they finished 8-0 in league play.

The Lady Lancers defeated arch-rival Crestview 3-0 last Thursday to win a showdown between the league co-leaders and finish just ahead of the second-place Knights (7-1).

The Lady Bulldogs fell to 9-12 overall and finished 2-6 (seventh place) in the nine-team NWC with the loss. The Lancers improved to 20-2 overall with the victory.

Hardin County cross country meet

KENTON - The Ada boys cross country team finished fifth at the five-team Hardin County Invitational meet hosted by Kenton Monday evening.

Hardin Northern won the team title with 45 points, barely edging Upper Scioto Valley (46) by a point. Kenton was third (53), Riverdale fourth (84) and Ada fifth (113).

Bulldog senior Hunter Wells ended up 14th in the 30-runner field to register the top Ada showing. He covered the 3.1-mile course in 20:50.5.

Ada's Seth Swaney finished 22nd and sophhomore teammate Riley Ferguson was 24th, followed closely by Connor Daugherty in 25th. Keegan Giddens was the fifth Bulldog runner in 29th

HARROD - The Ada girls soccer team traveled to local rival Allen East and lost 3-0 in a Northwest Conference match Monday night.

The defeat dropped the Lady Bulldog record to 3-11-1 overall and 2-4-1 in NWC play. Ada tied for fourth place in the league standings with Crestview.

AE improved to 9-5-1 overall with the win and is 4-2 in the NWC, good for third place. Spencerville is first in the league race at 6-0, with Bluffton second at 5-1.

"The first half was fairly even," said Ada head coach Doug Poling. "We had a great opportunity to close the gap late in the second half but hit the crossbar."

HARROD - Visiting Ada lost to backyard rival Allen East 2-0 in boys Northwest Conference soccer action Monday night.

The win lifted the AE record to 6-6-1 overall and a perfect 4-0 in NWC play. Ada fell to 8-6-1 overall and finished 3-2 in the NWC, good for third in the six-team league.

AE and Bluffton (11-2-1, 4-0 NWC) will meet for the outright NWC title in Harrod on Thursday, October 10 at 5 p.m. The Pirates have captured four straight NWC titles and have won 24 consecutive league matches.

Ada hosts non-league foe Liberty-Benton Wednesday, October 9 in their regular season finale.
