Bulldog Gautier 1st in long jump at Spencerville Relays

SPENCERVILLE - The Ada boys and girls track and field teams each finished seventh at the eight-team Bearcat Relays in Spencerville Friday.

Bulldog junior Phillip Gautier finished first in the long jump individually with a best jump of 20-6.25.

Ada junior Nora Dellifield took second in the pole vault. Ada senior Noah Mattson finished fourth in the shot put, and fifth in the discus.

The Bulldog boys 4x400 relay quartet also came in second.

Columbus Grove won the boys team title over Marion Local, while Fort Loramie edged Marion Local and Spencerville for the girls team crown.

Ada netters beat Van Wert

VAN WERT - The visiting Ada tennis team defeated another Western Buckeye League foe in Van Wert 3-2 Friday evening.

The Bulldog netters improved to 5-1 with their fourth straight win over a WBL squad this season. VW fell to 3-2 with the loss.

Ada swept all three singles matches in straight sets to post the win.

Cade Mullins and Isaac Spar each stayed perfect at 5-0 this season with their victories at first and second singles, respectively.

Miranda Wills improved her record to 5-1 with a win at third singles.

Coulson, Ada boys shut out Gophers

ADA - The host Ada baseball team blanked county rival Ridgemont 5-0 in a non-conference battle Friday evening.

The Bulldogs improved to 5-3 with the non-league victory, Ada's best eight-game start in over a decade.

Junior Phillip Coulson hurled a complete-game, four-hit shutout. He struck out eight, walked none and threw just 60 pitches in an efficient performance as 48 of his pitches went for strikes or were put in play.

The purple and gold scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and were never headed. The Bulldogs added two more runs in the third to build a 5-0 lead.

Dalton pitches Ada girls to sweep of Arlington

ADA - The host Ada softball team swept Arlington in a doubleheader as workhorse sophomore hurler Leona Dalton won both contests with complete-game efforts Saturday.

The Lady Bulldogs improved to 4-4 with the sweep on an unseasonably warm day.

Dalton twirled a one-hitter in the opener, a 10-1 Ada win. In the nightcap, the Bulldogs rolled to an 11-4 victory.

Senior center fielder Alexis Ennis rapped out four hits to spark Ada from the leadoff spot in the game one win. She also scored a run and drove in one run.

Ada swim team sign-up later this month

Swimmers ages 5 to 18 invited

Sign-ups for the Ada summer swim team will be held Monday, April 29, and Wednesday, May 1, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Ada First United Methodist Church, 301 N. Main St.

Swimmers from ages 5 to 18 are invited. The cost is $55 per child, with a $5 credit for each additional family member. This cost includes one ad per family in the championship heat sheet.

A $10 late fee will be assessed for anyone registering after May 31.  A representative from Poco Loco Swim Shop will be available at the first sign-up on April 29 for swim suit orders, caps and/or goggles.

Women’s results

The Ohio Northern women's lacrosse team scored seven consecutive goals and held off a late charge to defeat Heidelberg 12-9 on Wednesday night at Hoernemann Stadium.

The Polar Bears improve to 5-5 overall and are 1-1 in Ohio Athletic Conference play, while the Student Princes fall to 7-4, 1-1.

Junior Maddie Storr (Clarence, N.Y.) scored four goals and junior Betsy Naugle (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) had three goals and four assists to lead ONU.

Storr scored with four seconds left in the opening half to break a 5-all tie and give ONU a 6-5 lead at intermission.
