Lady Bulldogs overpowered by Van Buren in second half

The visiting Ada girls basketball team trailed by just three points to Van Buren at intermission, but got outscored 34-18 in the second half to lose 58-39 in non-conference girls basketball play Tuesday night, December 14.

The Lady Bulldogs fell to 2-6 with the defeat. The Lady Black Knights improved to 5-1 with the victory.

The contest was tied 11-11 after one period of play, and VB inched ahead 24-21 at halftime. The Black Knights then took control with a 16-7 third period, and won the final stanza 18-11.

Turnovers figure in Ada loss to Perry

The visiting Perry boys basketball team put together a half-ending 17-0 run and rolled to a 72-29 win over Ada in non-conference play Saturday night, December 11.

The Bulldogs dropped to 2-3 overall with the loss. Perry improved to 5-1 with the victory.

"We were certainly more competitive than last night vs. Grove, but we just made too many turnovers," said first-year Ada head coach Vince Halliday. 

"We have to be more under control," he added. 

Ada led 2-0 on a layup by senior Cayden Murphy. A layin by Jaden Leal from Murphy, and a Spencer Wall 15-footer kept the Bulldogs in front, 6-4. 

Vieira wins bracket title, new wrestlers get first wins at Lincolnview

The Ada wrestling team participated at the 12-team Lincolnview Invitational Saturday, December 11, with one Bulldog winning a bracket title. 

Spencerville captured the team championship, with Van Wert second.

Bulldog Liam Vieira won the 120 lbs. division title with a perfect 4-0 record on the day. He went 3-0 in pool play with a pin to reach the finals. He then won a 10-7 decision over Renson Spear of Van Wert.

"Liam wrestled a couple very competitive matches today, he worked through some difficult positions and finished his championship match strong after it was a one-point match nearly the entire time," said Ada head coach Eric Perkins.

Columbus Grove races past Ada boys

Visiting Columbus Grove team ran out to a 21-0 lead and easily defeated Ada 74-24 in the Northwest Conference boys basketball opener Friday night, December 10.

Ada fell to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the NWC with the loss. CG improved to 3-1 and 1-0 in the league with the victory.

"We didn't handle their press well, but we had handled pressure the first three games," said new Ada head coach Vince Halliday. "We didn't dribble or come to meet passes, and it was all she wrote early. It snowballed quickly."

Ada girls lose to Grove

Visiting Ada went scoreless in the third period and lost 44-19 at Columbus Grove in Northwest Conference girls basketball play Thursday night, December 9.

Grove led 21-13 at halftime, but outscored Ada 15-0 in the decisive third quarter to pull away. 

The Ada girls fell to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in the NWC with the defeat. The Grove girls improved to 4-1 and 2-0 with the victory.

"I was pleased with our defensive efforts," said Ada head coach Morgan Bass. "The first half was fun and competitive, but we hit a block in the third quarter as we did not score.

"I am proud of our efforts but we are moving on to try and get better for the next game," she added.

D3football.com picks Eik, Hahn and Bever for All-Region 4 honors

Seniors Austin Eick (Rossford) and Brody Hahn (Louisville) and junior Josh Bever (Ashland) were named All-Region 4 by D3football.com for 2021.

Eick and Bever were Second Team All-Region honorees, while Hahn was a Third Team All-Region selection.

Eick is now a three-time All-Conference selection at receiver, after earning Honorable Mention kudos in 2019 and 2020 and First Team honors in 2021.
