Hardin County Democrats host annual Presidents' Day luncheon

The Hardin County Democratic Party will host its annual Presidents Day Luncheon from noon-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 18 at the Kenton Elks Lodge, 157 E. Franklin St., Kenton.

Candidates scheduled to speak include Ohio Supreme Court Justice Michael Donnelly and a representative from Ohioans to Stop Executions. Local Democratic candidates will also be present.

The luncheon meal will include ham, chicken, salad, parsley potatoes, maple-glazed carrots, assorted desserts and drinks.

Hardin County Board of Elections will certify petitions on February 9

The Hardin County Board of Elections will meet Thursday, February 9, at 9:00 a.m. in their office in the courthouse to certify petitions for candidates and issies in 2023 elections.

This will be done during the regular business meeting for the Board, and other Board business will also be addressed as usual, such as approval of minutes and the auditor’s report.

Cover crop management seminar

Register by February 3

HARDIN COUNTY–Cody Beacom and Jim Hoorman are the headline speakers for a Cover Crop Management program presented by the Ohio No-Till Council, Hardin County OSU Extension, and The Nature Conservancy.

The three-hour morning event will be held at the Plaza Inn Restaurant, 491 S Main Street, Mt. Victory, starting at 9:00 am on Friday, February 10. Coffee and cake will be provided by Wingfield Crop Insurance Service starting at 8:30 am.

Russell “Pete” Pedersen worked for Pepsi Beverage Co.

Russell T. “Pete” Pedersen, Jr., age 78, of Lima formerly of Ada, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2023, at Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.

He was born on February 22, 1944, in Ft. Wayne, Indiana to the late Russell and Rae Lydia (Hayes) Pedersen, Sr. On June 28, 1963, Pete married Linda Allen formerly of Alger and she survives in Lima.         

Mary Bowden was a Link Trainer Operator during WWII

Mary Frances Stambaugh Bowden, of Ada, Ohio passed away on January 30, 2023 at the age of 99. 

Mary was born October 19, 1923, in McGuffey, Ohio, to the late Jennings and Ellen Stambaugh. She graduated from Ada High School in 1941 and earned a two-year degree in Aviation Technology from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri in 1943. At Stephens she was chosen as the outstanding graduate from the Aviation Department. After college, she worked as a Link Trainer Operator in Brownsville, Texas, training Air Force pilots during WWII.

Hardin Leadership Class of 2023 planned

HARDIN COUNTY--Participants for the thirtieth annual Hardin Leadership class, a program designed for the development of informed and effective community leaders, are being recruited until March 1. 

Hardin Leadership is sponsored and conducted by the Hardin Leadership Steering Committee and Hardin Leadership Inc. Nine monthly sessions will focus on the knowledge/skills required by today's community leader, such as public speaking, conflict management, and marketing.

This year’s program will be offered in morning sessions, March through November. A tuition fee of $350.00 per person covers the expenses of the program.
