Ada Youth Wrestling Club sign-ups today and Tuesday

The Ada Youth Wrestling Club  sign-ups are Monday, Nov. 4, 2013 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. and Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Ada School Cafeteria (located West of the Ada High School Gym).

This will be for boys and girls 5-12 years old. All experience levels, from beginner to advanced, are welcome to participate. The club accepts children from all surrounding communities.

The Ada club isa member of the Miami Valley Kids Wrestling Association (MVKWA) based in Dayton. The MVKWA has more than 70 clubs that participate in local tournaments weekly from December through February.

The Book Thief

Teens in the  Ada Public Library book group will discuss Markus Zusak's "The Book Thief" this month. The book discussion is at 4 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 14. Copies of the book are available at the library.

 

David Retterer, Ada mayor, Bluffton chamber speaker on Nov. 8

David Retterer, Ada mayor, is the guest speaker of the Friday, Nov. 8, Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce breakfast.

The breakfast meeting is in the Bluffton town hall. A complete, free breakfast, is served from 7 to 7:30 a.m. The meeting is from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m.

"We are pleased to have Mayor Retterer as our speaker," said Fred Steiner, Bluffton chamber CEO. Bluffton and Ada have many things in common. This will give Bluffton chamber members a chance to hear about its neighboring community.

Following the breakfast is a free workshop titled “What you don’t know you don’t know about human resources.” Sally Siferd, PHR, will lead the workshop.

Ohio Northern University inducts four into Athletic Hall of Fame

ADA — The Ohio Northern University Athletic Hall of Fame inducted four new members on Friday, Oct. 18, as part of ONU’s Homecoming weekend. 
 

        


The four inducted were Dr. DeBow Freed, the ninth president of the University who served from 1979-99; Alisa Agozzino, a 2001 communication arts graduate and volleyball and track athlete from Attica, Ohio; Jesse Marlow, a 1983 economics major and track and basketball athlete from Mahomet, Ill., and Terri Krach, a 1988 management and marketing major and softball athlete from Rocky River, Ohio.

Chemistry and Biochemistry Department holds new equipment open house

ADA —Ohio Northern University Chemistry and Biochemistry Department will introduce its new acquisition of a 400 MHz nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer (NMR) and commemorate 40 years of NMR spectroscopy at ONU with an open house event in the Mathile Center for the Natural Sciences Room 248 on Friday, Nov. 8 at 3 p.m.

Dr. Brian Myers, associate professor of chemistry, said the new NMR is an impressive piece of engineering that will dramatically improve the faculty’s ability to more readily carry out cutting edge laboratory research with students as well as improve access for instruction in several of our laboratory courses.

Ohio Northern University to host All-Ohio Choral Day

ADA — The Ohio Northern University Department of Music will host the second annual All-Ohio Choral Day on Friday, Nov. 1. More than 170 high school music students and teachers from across the state will participate in the event.

Led by distinguished choral composer Joseph M. Martin and assisted by Ben Ayling, ONU director of choral activities, the students will join University Singers, the select mixed ensemble at ONU, in a day of music-making and education.
