Published and student poets featured at April 4 ONU English reading series

The ONU English Reading Series will welcome poet and professor Kristin LaFollette to campus for its spring presentation at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 4.

She will read alongside creative writing student Dakari Ward in the Elzay Gallery of Art, 503 S Gilbert St. The reading will be followed by a Q & A and book signing.

This event is co-sponsored with the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies. Free and open to the public, this reading is supported with a generous gift from Phil Oleson, BSPh '66, and Mary (Montswil) Oleson, BSPh '70.

LaFollette is a writer, artist, and scholar from the Midwest. She is the author of Hematology. winner of the 2021 Harbor Editions Laureate Prize, and Body Parts, winner of the 2017 GFT Press Chapbook Prize.

March 21 council meeting agenda includes plans for chamber events

On the evening of Tuesday, March 21, the village will hold a 6:00 p.m. public hearing prior to the regular council meeting at 6:30 p.m. in Village Council Chambers, 115 W. Buckeye. The hearing is for the purpose of considering a rezoning request by Wilson’s Sporting Goods for three parcels from R2 to I2.

Special elections in Hardin County on May 2

There will be no Primary Election held in May 2023 in Hardin County, Ohio. 

There will be a Special Election held on May 2, 2023 for the Upper Scioto Valley Ambulance District and the Riverdale School District. The Board of Elections is accepting absentee applications for those 2 Districts for May 2.

Morris Sponsler, Jr. worked for North American Phillips

Morris Sponsler, Jr., age 69, of Lima, passed away on Friday, March 17, 2023, at 8:18 PM at Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.

He was born on October 12, 1953, in Lima, Ohio to the late Morris and Maudie (Wireman) Sponsler, Sr. Morris married Karen Asher on July 2, 1970 and she survives in Lima.

Registration is open for July 15 Ride to Remember

Loops include routes through and rest stops in Ada and Rawson

The ninth Annual Ride to Remember, a Bluffton Lions fundraising event for cyclists of all ages and abilities, is now taking registrations for the Saturday, July 15 event. (Register HERE.)

The in-person ride will take cyclists through the villages of Bluffton, Ada, Rawson and the surrounding countryside. Routes include four marked loops. Distances range from 11-124 miles.

The first 275 registered riders to check in will receive a cinch sack filled with items from local businesses and a lunch coupon. In 2022, the cinch sack value was close to $200. A commemorative T-shirt will be offered for purchase during registration.

LOOPS

The 11-mile Fun Loop is great for young families and new cyclists; portions use Bluffton’s bicycle paths. 

The Rawson Loop, with a rest stop in Rawson, is 24 miles.

The 37-mile Ada Loop passes through the villages of Lafayette and Ada, with a rest stop on the Ohio Northern campus.

The full Main Loop is 63 miles with cut-offs provided at 23, 46 and 56 miles. Main Loop rest stops are at 16, 31 and 46 miles.
