Glenn E. Hinds owned several Ada businesses

Glenn E. Hinds, age 92, of Ada, passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at 2:08 AM at the Good Samaritan Society of Arlington. 

He was born on July 25, 1931, in Lima, Ohio to the late Clifford and Mabel (Bivens) Hinds.  On July 29, 1951, Glenn married Rosabelle “Rosie” Warrington and she preceded him in death on October 4, 2008.  

Hardin County Family YMCA to host Infant Swim Rescue class

The Hardin County Family YMCA will be hosting an Infant Swim Rescue class starting October 3. Organizers explain, "If you have never heard of ISR you need to! This is not your average swim lesson. It is a life saving swim program for children ages 6 months to 6 years.

Bulldog girls soccer blanked by Eagles

The visiting Ada High School girls soccer team lost 11-0 at North Central Ohio Soccer Association powerhouse Liberty-Benton Wednesday evening, September 13.

With the road loss, Ada’s overall record dropped to 4-2-2, and their NCOSA mark fell to 0-1-1.

Under the Boardwalk: Impact of warming sea waters

In 1964, the Drifters released the popular song Under the Boardwalk written by Kenny Young and Arthur Resnick. The song has been covered by numerous artists and actors including Bette Midler, the Rolling Stones, Bruce Willis, Sam & Dave, and the Beach Boys. Rolling Stones magazine ranked this song in the top 500 best of all time. Over 40 individual performers have drifted in and out of the Drifters over the years. There is a long history for the group. 

If you are considering a vacation to the beach and boardwalk, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a health warning on September 1, 2023 for the Eastern Seaboard and the Gulf Coast. The advisory relates to an increase in infection caused by the bacteria Vibrio vulnificus in the United States.

Vibrio vulnificus thrives in warm seawater and poses two significant health risks to people. The bacterium requires saltwater or brackish water to survive. Brackish water is less salty than seawater, but has more salt than freshwater.

This fall semester, Ohio Northern University student-athlete Abigail “Abi” Akamine is more grateful than ever for the routines and normalcy of college, given that she and her family are survivors of the devastating Laihana, Hawaii wildfire that occurred in August.

Ohio grant funds provide new safety measures at Ada Schools

New fence treatments at the Ada Schools are part of new security measures funded by the State of Ohio. At a recent school board meeting it was noted that most upgrades will deal with technology.
